PISGAH POTLUCK CLUB
More detailed information about the Pisgah Potluck Club will be posted later, but in the meantime, here is a brief summary about the Potluck Club as shared with our group by Terry Wood Cully:
“Pisgah Potluck is still going strong. It is approx 80 years old and meets every second Wed of the month at 12:30 in members homes. It was originally set at a 5 mile radius of central Pisgah to be a member because it got so big in the beginning; women could not host that many. Now we have many ‘retired’ farm women that have moved to town and welcome them to stay in potluck. We get together for a meal, occasional mixer games, and keep up on each others lives. We don’t meet in Jan, Feb, July, and Aug. But have a different hostess every month that supplies the meat and drink, while others bring a dish to add. We have guests attend and now, no one is excluded that wants to join us for fellowship. We used to have a $1 dues to pay for incidentals, but don’t anymore. We used to have a President, secretary, and treasurer; read minutes from last month’s meeting. But it got so redundant, we stopped years ago. Agnes Johnson was our last President that I can remember. My Grandmother, Hazel Wood(married to Leonard I. wood) was one of the founding members with Minnie Curry. I’ve gone to Pisgah Potluck since I was born, and hope to keep it going as long as possible. Right now we have 18-25 attending!! Minnie Curry wrote our Potluck song to the tune of ‘Catcher In The Rye’ called We Women of the Farm.”
